Q: What types of organizations are eligible?

Community organizations, nonprofits organizations, research institutions (including those affiliated with universities or government-supported institutes), local governments, service providers, private businesses, public-private partnerships, and social businesses are eligible to apply or be nominated.
National government ministries/departments and international organizations are not eligible to apply or be nominated, but organizations funded by a national government or international organization may be considered.

Q: Does the organization have to be a legal entity?

Nominated/applying organizations do not have to be registered legal entities. For example, informal coalitions, associations, or clubs may be considered.

Q: Are organizations in any country eligible for the award?

No. Nominated/applying organizations must be based in one of the following countries/regions: Brunei, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan), Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam.

Nominators, if different from the nominee, may be located anywhere.

Q: Our initiative involves more than one organization. Can we apply as a group?

Yes. If more than one organization is involved in the creation and/or implementation of the innovation, you may list all collaborating organizations on the form. However, please designate one individual for the purpose of communications regarding this application, and give that person’s contact information.

If your innovation is selected as the Grand Prize winner, you will be asked to designate one of the listed organizations to receive the cash award and one representative to receive round-trip airfare and accommodations for the AHWIN Forum. (Other members of the group are welcome to attend, but they must cover their own costs.)

Q: Can I apply or be nominated for more than one innovation?

Generally speaking, organizations should only apply or be nominated for one innovation per year.
However, if there are different project teams or departments within an organization that are carrying out different innovations, then they can apply. In that case, please indicate the division or project team name on the application form as well as the organization name. [Updated 1/30/20]

Q: As a Nominator, Can I nominate more than one innovation?

Yes, there is no limit on the number of innovations you can nominate. [Updated 1/30/20]

Q: Can my innovation be considered for the award if I am not able to attend the AHWIN Forum?

Yes. Arrangements will be made to have the innovation presented at the Forum by a designated representative of the organization.

Q: How are awardees selected?

Awardees will be selected with the assistance of a multinational advisory committee.

Q: I filled in the application form, but noticed that there is a revised version. Do I need to use the new form?

No. Either form is acceptable. The updates were for clarity only. [Updated 2/3/2020]

Q: What is the privacy policy regarding information submitted for this award?

Individual information received by the award secretariat will be appropriately handled according to the privacy policies of JCIE ( ERIA ( and will be used solely for the purposes of this program or for the distribution by our organizations of notices regarding related requests for proposals, events, and other news.
